Organic Altura is a single-origin organic coffee directly sourced from the Guadalupe Gold Cooperative in the Nicaraguan highlands, grown at 1,400 meters — Strictly High Grown (SHG) elevation, where slow bean development at altitude produces denser, more complex beans with cleaner flavor. Organic cultivation: sustainable farming practices, natural cultivation methods, no synthetic inputs. Rich chocolate depth, bright citrus acidity with a green apple quality, creamy medium body, balanced natural sweetness, smooth finish.
Available in Whole Bean or Ground, 12oz or 5lb.

What SHG Means
SHG — Strictly High Grown — is a green coffee grading designation used in Central America for beans grown above 1,200 meters. At those elevations, cooler temperatures slow the maturation of the coffee cherry, producing denser beans with more concentrated sugars and a more complex, nuanced flavor profile than lower-grown alternatives. 1,400m in Nicaragua’s highlands qualifies and the difference in cup density is real.
Brew Methods
- Pour-over — high-altitude organic Nicaraguan Arabica is well-suited to pour-over; the chocolate depth and green apple brightness both express clearly with clean extraction. Medium grind, 30-second bloom
- Drip coffee makers — consistent and reliable; the creamy medium body holds up well at standard brew strength, black or with cream
- French press — full immersion develops the chocolate depth and the creamy body fully; the citrus brightness is softer here but still present
- Cold brew — high-altitude Nicaraguan at this profile works well cold; the citrus note softens into clean sweetness. Coarse grind, 12–14 hours
Organic Altura sits in the Guadalupe Gold Cooperative lineup alongside non-organic Nicaraguan single-origins in the catalog. The SHG elevation and organic cultivation are the two differentiators: denser beans grown without synthetic inputs at altitude. At $16.99 (currently on sale from $18.99), it’s the organic entry point in the Guadalupe Roastery lineup.
