Mountain of Peace is a premium specialty coffee sourced from the Guadalupe Gold Cooperative, grown at 4,200–5,500 feet, featuring the exceptional character of Sumatra Mandheling. Rich, full-bodied, low acidity, bold tasting notes: baker’s chocolate richness, black pepper depth, bright fruity finish. Above-average body, smooth and approachable. A serious everyday coffee with a profile that stands out from most Nicaraguan and Colombian origins in the catalog.
Available in Whole Bean or Ground, 12oz or 5lb.
What Is Sumatra Mandheling?
Mandheling is one of the most distinctive and sought-after coffee origins in the world — grown in the volcanic highlands of Sumatra, Indonesia, and named after the Mandailing people of North Sumatra. The profile is immediately recognizable: low acidity, above-average to full body, earthy depth, baker’s chocolate, and a black pepper or spice note in the finish. It’s the opposite of a bright, citrus-forward East African profile — dark, grounded, bold, and smooth. The above-average body and low acid make it particularly well-suited to French press and drip without needing milk to smooth the edges.

Brew Methods
- French press — the primary recommendation for a Sumatra Mandheling profile; full immersion develops the above-average body fully, the baker’s chocolate and black pepper finish come through most completely here. Coarse grind, 4 minutes
- Drip coffee makers — the low acidity and above-average body translate cleanly to drip; works especially well black; the chocolate and spice notes are the dominant character at standard brew strength
- Pour-over — medium grind; the fruity brightness comes through more clearly in pour-over than in immersion; a different read on the same coffee
- Cold brew — low-acidity, heavy-bodied Sumatra profiles work exceptionally well cold; the chocolate depth stays fully present and the fruity finish becomes the dominant note. Coarse grind, 14–16 hours
Mountain of Peace is the most distinctively Indonesian-profile coffee in the Guadalupe Roastery catalog — low acid, above-average body, chocolate and black pepper depth. If you find most Central American single-origins too bright or acidic, this is the direction to go. The Sumatra Mandheling profile is one of the most loyal daily drinkers in specialty coffee: once you find it, you tend to come back to it.
