A medium-roast single origin from the volcanic slopes of Mt. Elgon in eastern Uganda. Chocolate-forward, smooth, with acidity that's present but never sharp.

What Ugandan coffee tastes like

If you know East African coffee from Ethiopia or Kenya, this isn't that. Those tend toward bright citrus and florals. Uganda sits at the other end: chocolate, a heavier body, gentler acidity. It's the East African origin for people who found Ethiopian coffee too bright, and it's a good gateway if you're moving beyond supermarket blends but aren't ready for something that tastes like lemonade.

Why the mountain matters

Two things are doing the work. Altitude slows how fast the cherries ripen, which concentrates sugar and gives you a denser bean. And Mt. Elgon is an extinct volcano, so the soil is mineral-rich. That combination is why this has natural sweetness that doesn't need a dark roast to cover anything up.

How to brew it

It's genuinely flexible, which not every single origin is.

• Pour-over for the cleanest look at it. Medium-coarse grind, 1:16 ratio, about 20g coffee to 320g water
• French press if you want the body pushed forward. Coarse grind, four minutes
• Drip works fine and is the easy daily option
• Espresso pulls sweet, if you want a single-origin shot with chocolate behind it

Which bag

A 12oz is about two weeks for a daily drinker, which is roughly the window where coffee is at its best after roasting. The 5lb makes sense for an office or a fast household. Split it into smaller airtight containers and only open one at a time, otherwise the last pound tastes like cardboard.
