The part that makes it worth the money

Most cold brew makers ask you to lift a soaked filter basket out of a container and get it to the bin without dripping across the kitchen. This one has a switch at the base: you press it and gravity does the filtering, hands clean. Pull the carafe away mid-pour and it stops on its own rather than emptying onto the counter.

The Rainmaker lid is the other piece. Instead of dumping water in one spot, it spreads it across the grounds so the whole bed gets wet at once. Uneven wetting means some grounds over-extract and others barely contribute, which is where flat, uneven cold brew comes from.

Why cold brew, not iced coffee

Hot water pulls acids and bitter compounds fast. Cold water is slow and just doesn't dissolve as much of them, so the concentrate is rounder and sweeter and easier on your stomach. Iced coffee is brewed hot and then chilled, so the acidity stays and it thins out as the ice melts. Different drink entirely.

Getting a good result

Grind coarse, the texture of raw sugar. Fine grounds sneak through a mesh filter and leave you with silt at the bottom of the cup. Steep 12 to 24 hours, longer if you like it stronger.

It makes 40oz of concentrate, so cut it to taste with water or milk, roughly one to one is a good starting point. Sealed in the fridge it holds for about two weeks. Works for tea too.
