Want to try pour-over coffee without making every pour a test of your technique? The Hario Switch 02 gives you another way to brew. Close the valve to let your grounds steep in water, then use the switch to release the coffee through a paper filter into your cup or server.

That’s immersion brewing followed by a filtered drawdown. In plain English: you give the coffee time to steep before it drains. You can also leave the valve open and use it as a pour-over dripper. One small brewer, two approaches to work with.

What makes the Hario Switch different from a regular V60?

A regular V60 lets water flow through as you pour. The Switch adds a shut-off valve so you can hold the water in the glass bowl before releasing it. It gives you control over steep time as well as your pour, without needing a second brewer.

Who is this coffee dripper for?

I’d choose it if you’re new to manual brewing and want to start with a straightforward steep-and-release recipe, or if you already enjoy pour-over and want to experiment with immersion or a combination of the two. Your grind, dose, water, and brew time still matter. The switch isn’t a shortcut around those basics.

How much coffee does the 02 Switch make?

This model has a listed finished capacity of 200ml, making it a single-serve option. The “02” identifies the dripper and filter size; it doesn’t mean two full mugs of coffee.

Which filters do I need?

Use Hario V60 size 02 paper filters. They are sold separately, so add filters if you don’t already have them. You’ll also need ground coffee, water, and a sturdy, compatible cup or server. A gooseneck kettle is useful for controlled pour-over brewing.

How do I use it?

Set the dripper securely over your cup or server, fit a paper filter, and rinse the filter to preheat the glass. For immersion brewing, close the valve, add coffee and water according to your recipe, let it steep, then use the switch to open the valve and drain. Handle the hot glass and water carefully.
