How do you use a puck screen?

Dose, distribute, and tamp your coffee as usual, then place the screen flat on top of the puck before locking in the portafilter. Make sure there’s enough headspace so the screen doesn’t press against the machine’s shower screen. After brewing, let it cool before removing it, rinse away the grounds, and keep the mesh clean between uses.

Which size should you choose?

Check your basket’s internal diameter and the recommended puck screen size for your setup. Pick 51mm or 58mm based on basket fit, not machine brand alone. The screen should sit flat without binding against the basket walls.

Does it replace your machine’s shower screen?

No. This is a removable screen that goes inside the portafilter, on top of the coffee. It is not a replacement part for the shower screen attached to your machine.

Will it fix channeling?

Not on its own. Channeling happens when water finds easier paths through the coffee. A puck screen can help spread incoming water, but grind size, dose, distribution, and tamping still matter.
