You still set the direction. Choose light, medium, or dark and you'll get something in that range. Choose flavored or decaf and they'll work within it. Or choose Truly Random and hand over the wheel entirely.

So it's a surprise with guardrails, which is the right amount of surprise for something you're going to drink every morning for two weeks.

Why buy coffee you can't choose

Because most of us get stuck. You find a bag you like, you reorder it, and two years later you've never tried an Ethiopian natural or a proper dark Sumatran. Letting someone who tastes coffee all day pick for you is the fastest way out of that rut, and the occasional bag you don't love is worth the ones you'd never have ordered.

It also makes a good gift for the coffee drinker who already has opinions, since you're not trying to guess which specific bag they want.
