Why a scale is the upgrade nobody expects

Scoops measure volume, and volume lies. A scoop of light roast weighs more than a scoop of oily dark roast, and ground coffee packs differently depending on grind size, so the same scoop gives you a different dose every time. Using it for espresso

Put the cup on, tare to zero, pull the shot, and watch the yield climb. If your recipe is 18g in and 36g out in 28 seconds, this tells you all three. That's dialing in, and without a scale you're guessing at it.
